Grounded in Science | CSU is a global leader in soil carbon research & climate change solutions, 2024
Colorado State University (CSU) has been at the forefront of climate research and policy implementation for over 50 years, particularly in studying soil carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. The U.S. government relies on CSU's expertise for official greenhouse gas emissions reporting, a partnership strengthened by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act's $19.5 billion climate-smart agriculture program. CSU's Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) has developed models like DayCent to predict soil carbon dynamics, which are now used globally and in emerging carbon markets.
CSU also leads in carbon management education, offering degrees and certificates, and has many laboratories, such as the Climate Solutions Laboratory, that are spearheading the development of climate mitigation solutions through plants, soil, and more. CSU is recognized as a leader in climate solutions, dubbed "Climate Solutions University" for its comprehensive approach to tackling climate change.
W.M. Keck Foundation awards CSU $1 million to study rare sugars fundamental to biology | 2021
A multidisciplinary team at Colorado State University, including experts in chemistry, ecosystem science, and microbiology, received a $1 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to study rare sugars in soil. The research challenges long-standing biochemical principles by exploring how microbes interact with these rare sugars, potentially leading to breakthroughs in disease research and the food industry. The team will use advanced techniques to track biochemical processes at the atomic level, aiming to uncover new insights into microbial metabolism and its impact on the environment and human health.
